XENLUO.XYZ reported yesterday that during this month’s patch Tuesday (February 11), Microsoft pushed the cumulative update KB5051974 to Windows 10 system, focusing on fixing multiple security vulnerabilities including memory leaks, and starting to automatically install a new version of Outlook .
After installing the KB5051974 cumulative update, the Windows 10 22H2 version number will be raised to 19045.5487 and the Windows 10 21H2 version number will be raised to 19044.5487.
For users who do not want to install a new version of Outlook, they can prevent the installation of a new version of Outlook by modifying the registry before installing the KB5051974 cumulative update.
XENLUO.XYZ attached the following steps
1. Open the Start menu, enter regedit, or search for Windows Registry to enter the system registry.
2. Navigate to the following path:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsUpdate\Orchestrator\UScheduler_Oobe
3. Create a new REG_SZ string value and modify the name to BlockedOobeUpdaters.
4. Double-click to open BlockedOobeUpdaters and create a name as (“MS_Outlook”) (including double quotes)
For Windows 10 users who have installed the new version of Outlook, open PowerShell with administrator permissions and enter the following command to uninstall the new version of Outlook:
Remove-AppxProvisionedPackage -AllUsers -Online -PackageName (Get-AppxPackage Microsoft.OutlookForWindows).PackageFullName
